laser meme with someone trying to get through a laser. That's what it's like trying to tell a joke in 2016. I think everyone feels a little on edge saying anything. Sometimes you feel like you have to read all the news before you can say anything... I feel like I have the power with one button to speak with so many people and be connected with people all over the world at the snap of you finger. It's a powerful tool.. 。But when you have a lot to lose you get a bit careful because the bigger you are the harder you fall. So you just kind of have to learn how to bob and weave. I think the whole world has become a little on edge over what you can and cannot say. And it's not just me, it's anyone.。What made you want to use your platform to promote DonorsChoose?

I have a lot of spotlight, and that's why I do things like this. I just need to refocus the spotlight on things that need it. DonorsChoose is kind of like Kickstarter for teachers. The education system in America is not brilliant, and hopefully that will change soon. But right now we don't put enough importance into it, and a lot of teachers are having to dip into their own pockets. It's just one of things where you assume people's needs are already met but when you look at it there's such a big hole. Education is so important for kids, especially in those formative years. 。

There's so much light shone on other things that aren't really priorities or attainable in everybody's life. Education is attainable to everyone. Fame isn't going to happen to everyone, nor should it. There's too much focus on that, people should focus on having a good education, as boring as it sounds.。

How did your own education experience growing up make you want to team up with DonorsChoose?

My parents were kind of like gypsies. Gypsies for God, because we were part of the God squad. So from three to 10 I was moving once a year so my education was really choppy and I never really stayed in a school for long until I was homeschooled or in these Christian schools that were more focused on teaching from the Bible than science. So my education was the not the greatest. But I imagine -- with everything at my fingertips and all the opportunity I have now -- if I had an education on top of that how much better I could speak to people. It's the one thing you can't buy and is the most valuable thing.。 When releasing your Olympics anthem, "Rise," you said you wanted to release the song now instead of waiting for your next album. When did you write "Rise," and why did you decide to release it now instead of with the album?"Rise" is a song that I have had swirling around in me. it's a little bit like the story of the phoenix, about overcoming... Rising up again or finding that inner strength again and again, that's a lifelong theme for me. Years ago I had tried to write it but it didn't work, it didn't come out right. And when the Olympics approached us it was already half written, and it was one of the first songs that I have written in this next batch, so I pulled it out.。

I would never necessarily go with this type of song as the first single in the middle of summer. It wasn't obvious as something I would go with for the next record, but it seemed to match the spirit of the athletes. I felt like that really matched. I've been taking my time making this record and I just wanted to have a bridge of something whether I was thinking about doing something for a film or something like this and this seemed so obvious and such a perfect fit.。
