It may be based on a graphic novel, but Netflix's The Old Guardnow has a game too. As part of the streaming giant's promotional campaign around the action film starring Charlize Theron and Chiwetel Ejiofor about a covert group of immortal mercenaries, Netflix is releasing a browser-based game of the same name. In this top-down, beat ‘em up game, you play as Labrys-wielding immortal Andy (a.k.a. Andromache of Scythia), and battle hordes of enemies with your double-headed axe. It's all part of a competition Netflix is running across the U.S. — the player who achieves the highest score in the game will win what they're calling an "Immortal Netflix Account," which isn't exactly that, but isan 83-year subscription, or 1000 months (whether Netflix will even be around in 83 years to deliver on the goods remains to be seen, of course). The film takes cues from Greg Rucka's graphic novel, and the game is based on the events in the movie directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, which follows a group of immortals whose secret is exposed just as a new member joins. And as in the film, dying doesn't mean the game is over — if you die in the game you just get slowed down, meaning it's harder to hit the high score within the allotted time. The game goes live on its dedicated website on July 17 at 8 a.m. PST and will run until July 19. Whoever ends the three days with the highest score gets the lengthy account. Straight up, this is a promotion and a competition, but the game does look kinda fun. You could watch the film beforehand and decide for yourself whether it's worth your time. The Old Guard isavailable to stream on Netflix. TopicsGamingNetflixRelated Video: 'The Old Guard's' Chiwetel Ejiofor reflects on his most iconic roles
