Yes, Apple is known for being a little late to the party (exhibit A: USB-C), but Android smartphone makers often take a page out from the Cupertino-based tech giant’s late-adoption playbook, too. Rumors suggest the Samsung Galaxy S24 will have a few new features that will make you say, “Wait a minute; doesn’t the iPhone 15 have that?”

Recently, I poured some gasoline on the Android vs. iPhone fire by listing all the features the iPhone 15 swiped from the Google Pixel 7. Now, we’ll be looking at how the Samsung Galaxy S24, poised for a release date in early 2024, will reportedly steal from the iPhone 15.

1. Titanium

Anyone else hear Sia screaming "I am titanium!" whenever they see this word? No? OK, I guess it's just me. Anyway, the iPhone 15 kicked its predecessor’s stainless steel frame to the curb in favor of a titanium one, which slashes the weight down significantly. According to MacRumors, the new titanium shaved off 19 grams from both the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

According to Ice Universe, a leaker with a decent track record, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra will also use a titanium frame. However, the generation-over-generation weight delta will only be one gram. The Galaxy S23 Ultra is already outfitted with a light aluminum frame, so the titanium-packed Galaxy S24 Ultra will only be a hair lighter than its predecessor.

However, according to this iPhone 15 drop test– and one from YouTuber JerryRigEverything– the titanium material may not be as durable as Apple says it is. Let’s hope that the Samsung Galaxy S24 doesn’t suffer the same fragile fate.

2. Satellite connectivity

The Galaxy S-series was rumored to get satellite connectivity for the S23 line, but unfortunately, it ended up not having it – even though its Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset supports it.

However, according to a statement from Lee Jong-Ho, the South Korean minister of science and ICT (Information and Communications Technology), local smartphone brands are poised to launch a service that brings data transmission between 5G phones and satellites in 2024. Because Samsung is the most prevalent smartphone brand in the region, this suggests that the company may roll out satellite connectivity for the S24 line next year.

3. Big graphics push?

Apple gushed about the iPhone 15 Pro models’ graphics capabilities, even boasting that users will have the ability to play games that once only ran on consoles and PCs.

According to a report from Weibo, a Chinese social network, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, which is expected to be inside the Galaxy S24 line, will have a faster GPU by 50% compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. The graphics packed inside the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which can be found inside the Galaxy S23 line, are already significantly faster than the A16 Bionic chip inside the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

If that Weibo report is true, there’s a good chance that the Samsung Galaxy S24 line may leave the A17 Pro, found inside the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro Max, in the dust with its graphics capabilities. As such, Samsung may follow Apple’s lead and showcase the Samsung Galaxy S24’s graphics prowess by showing off its mobile gaming muscle.
